- Villa urbaine - international open student
contest. The town of
Lambersart in the Lille conurbation has decided to organize an
international contest open to students of Schools of Architecture,
the subject of which is the urban villa, built individually or
on a housing estate. Registration Deadline: 31th December 2002
Coram
Design Award Dutch bathroom specialist Coram is running a
competition for products that reuse or reduce the amount of water
necessary for specific functions in the bathroom. The registration
deadline for "Re-use or Re-duce" is 31 December 2002.
Entries are due by 28 February 2003.
Automatic
Architecture -Italy -DITEC S.p.A., based in Caronno Pertusella
(VA), is a leading company for the production of automatic doors.
Through the magazine 'FRAMES - Architettura dei Serramenti',
it is promoting the first edition of an international architecture
award. Entry from 20th march; Deadline: 16th Dec 2003.
- Young
Architect of the Year award.
The Corus sponsored Young Architect of the Year Award is now
in its sixth year. The award was created with Building Design
magazine, the leading weekly newspaper for architects, and aims
to highlight and celebrate the very best of emerging architectural
talent. Closing date for entries: Friday 13 December 2002

- Berkeley
Prize 2003. Founded by
UC Berkeley Professor of Architecture, Raymond Lifchez, the fifth
annual online undergraduate essay competition for architecture
students is dedicated to the proposition that architecture is
a social art. Entries will be accepted on-line between November
15 and December 10, 2002.

HUB Civic Plaza Competition
-LA HUB, a Los Angeles-based urban design collaborative, is sponsoring
a conceptual competition to explore a proposed Civic Plaza located
in downtown L.A. Registration/submission deadline: December 15,

- Berkeley
Prize -An international,
on-line essay competition open to undergraduate students of architecture
dedicated to the proposition that architecture is a social art.
Contestants may enter their 500 word proposals for an essay to
answer the Question until 20:00 hrs. Universal Time (noon Pacific
Daylight Time) on December 10, 2002.
Power
Plant Transformation Competition -seeks conceptual designs
for the transformation of a functioning power plant into a landmark
and gateway for the city of Ames. Deadline for entry/submission
is Monday, December 2, 2002
- International
ideas for the requalification and valorization of urban park
"Li Comuni" of Catanzaro The Provincial
Administration of Catanzaro as a suggestion of and in co-operation
with the student Association MEM89 from the Faculty of Architecture
of Reggio Calabria propose an international competition of ideas
of project opened to the partecipations of students and graduates
about topic: "Requalification and valorization of urban
park "Li Comuni" of Catanzaro (Calabria). Deadline

Marshcroft
Early Years Centre Two-stage Invited Competition. Expressions
of interest are invited for an RIBA competition to rebuild the
Marshcroft Early Years Centre in Fulham, creating a multi-disciplinary
service for children, their families and the wider community.
The deadline for receipt of practice profiles is Tuesday 26 November
2002 at 4.00pm.
Dead
Malls -The Los Angeles Forum for Architecture and Urban Design
proposes an open, two-part, ideas competition to envision the
future of the mall. Phase 1 Deadline: November 18th, 2002
Speculative
Chicago: A Compendium of Architectural Innovation An exhibition
(25 February - 29 March 2003) and catalogue Proposing Chicago
as a test bed for innovation, Gallery 400 and the School of Architecture,
University of Illinois at Chicago join forces to sponsor an exhibition
and catalogue intended to raise awareness of the city's current
architectural activity. Deadline for submissions is Friday 15
November 2002.
- School of Business and Corniche Façade,
Beirut As part of its
recently completed Master Plan, the American University of Beirut
is launching a design competition for the New School of Business
& Corniche Frontage. Submission Deadline for participation:
November 8, 2002.
- 6th International Design Resource Awards Competition The theme of this year's Competition
is "Design with Memory" which is a phrase created to
try and describe ecurring characteristics of this new field of
sustainable design. Where do materials come from and where will

National
Centre for Contemporary Art Carlow Architectural Design Competition.
The competition is an open two stage architectural competition
for the design of for the architectural/design services for a
National Centre for Contemporary Art. Withdrawal of registration:

Splash international
competition for Walsall waterfront -international competition
to find an architect for its planned development in Walsall.
The strategic plan is for a 7ha canalside site adjacent to Caruso
St John's new art gallery. Expressions of interest by 11 November.
European
Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards.
The European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage has recently been
launched by the European Commission as part of the implementation
of the Culture 2000 Programme. Closing date: 1 November 2002
Architecture
for Humanity -designers are asked to develop concepts for
a fully equipped mobile medical unit and HIV/AIDS treatment center
for use specifically in Africa. The entry shall be post marked
no later than midnight November 1st 2002.

- This year's TECU®
Architecture Award 2002 will distinguish architecturally
outstanding buildings that make use of TECU® building materials
and were completed in Europe since the last award in the year
2000. Application forms are available now on request; the final

International
Concept Competition for the Northern Osaka Station Area The
competition targets approx.24-hectare site, Umeda Freight Train
station, located in the Umeda district, the commercial heart
of Osaka, Japan. The site occupies the north side of the city1s
largest railroad station, JR Osaka station. Registration by 31st

- Monterey
County Housing Competition
-the American Institute of Architects, Monterey Bay Chapter (AIAMB),
in collaboration with AIA California Council is hosting an international
competition, "Concepts," to create housing solutions
to benefit and sustain Monterey County communities. Registration/submission

- DHW Sustainable Housing Design Competition,
Australia The Department
of Housing and Works of East Perth invites submissions from architects,
designers, builders and tertiary students of architecture for
an ideas competition that will investigate the issues, costs
and benefits of sustainable house design. Deadline: 29 October

- Off-site
annexe to the WTO. With
a view to meeting its future needs, the Secretariat of the Geneva-based
World Trade Organization (WTO) intends to construct an office
building of approximately 11,000 to 13,000 square metres on the
Avenue de France in Geneva. Registration deadline: 28 October

- 26th Annual Cooper Source Awards Open to any lighting designers, architects,
interior designers, or other professionals who use light in an
interior or exterior application. Two categories are available,
one for professionals, the other for students, who will compete
for a $1500 cash prize. Submission: 25 October 2002
Designs
on Democracy - reinventing the town hall - an open two stage
competition run by The Institute for Public Policy Research,
in association with CABE, the Design Council and the Architects'
Journal. The three sites are Bradford, Stockport and North Hertfordshire
(Letchworth) town halls. Expressions of interest must be received
by 21st October
Design
scheme of a complex of administration buildings for Moscow
Government and Moscow Municipal Duma (municipal council) in the
International Moscow Business Centre "Moscow-City".
The competition is open from the 15th of May till the 15th of
October, 2002.
- Stack A Bridge Architectural/Engineering Competition for the design of the proposed
Pedestrian Bridge across the River Liffey linking Lombard Street
and Custom House Quay at Stack A in Dublin's city centre. Closing

- Heritage Resource Centre -Expressions of interest are invited
for a competition to design a Heritage Resource (Visitor) Centre
for Hardwick Park at a budget of £600,000. Hardwick Park
is a Grade II* listed landscape included on the Register of Parks
and Gardens of National Importance. The competition promoter
is Durham County Council.

Rathmines
Square & Leisure Centre Architectural Design Competition.
Dublin City Council is inviting entries for a Design Contest
for Rathmines Square and Leisure Centre in Dublin. Closing date
for receipt of entries: Thursday 3rd October 2002
- The Reardon Smith Student Competition
for Hotel Architecture
2002 -to design an international airport hotel. The judges will
be looking for submissions that demonstrate original research
and effort to understand the brief as well as the hotel marketplace.

Bicentennial
Tower -The Municipality of Santiago de Chile with the sponsorship
of the XIII Biennale of Architecture of Santiago de Chile, 2002,
and the Colegio de Arquitectos de Chile calls for design proposals
of the ``Bicentennial Tower" to be constructed on one side
of the Centro Cultural Estacion Mapocho. Registration deadline
Oct 1st 2002.
Building
Sites Award. This Award is about site access and the way
in which people outside the construction industry engage with
the construction process. Submissions by 30th Sept 2002.
Cultural
and Administrative complex of Montreal, Canada. Two phase
international competition for design of a mega complex, including
a opera house of 2000 seats, a music school and the quebec government

- International Ideas Competition for the
Design of the Busan Tower Complex
(Republic of Korea) The municipal authorities of Busan, 2nd largest
city in Korea, announces an international ideas competition,
open to young architects, aged forty or under, for the design
of an observation tower. Deadline for entries 30th Sept 2002.
The
Tono Frontier Science Research City Project, Japan -aims
not only to provide the world's top-class research and development
facilities, but also to create a comfortable and highly functional
cosmopolis by designing high-quality residential areas, facilities
for community activities, relaxation, and cultural activities,
and consequently, a better environment for researchers to live
in. Registration Deadline September 30th 2002.
- International prize Dedalo Minosse for commissioning a building. The Dedalo-Minosse
International Prize for commissioning a building, The Jury will
award the Prize, within the terms of the law and the regulations,
to Clients who have collaborated harmoniously with an architect
to successfully create works of particular value. Deadline for
entry extended to 20th Sept 2002.

Beyond East & West for the One Child Family -The Hanssem 2nd DBEW International
Design Competition, Korea. Open international competition on
the theme of creation of a new space for the one child family.

The
Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, the agency overseeing
the rebuilding of the former World Trade Center site, has announced
that it will run a month-long international "design study"
to generate ideas for the devastated area. The LMDC describes
the selection criteria as: "quality of work product in past
projects; innovative and outstanding work that demonstrates unique
qualifications". The deadline for receipt of entries is
16 September 2002.

Morisawa Awards 2002 Open International Typeface Design Competition
from Osaka, Japan. Registration Deadline: Aug 31, 2002
Designed
for Living ... flexible, adaptable and extendable housing.
Swaythling Housing Society wishes to develop a prototype housing
project, "Designed for Living", in Eastleigh, Hampshire.
Expressions of interest, in the form of practice profile submissions
on no more than ten sides of A4, are invited from registered
architects to be received by the RIBA Competitions Office no
later than 30 August 2002.
New
centre for the teaching of art and design Pocklington School.
Expressions of interest are invited from architects for the design
of a new centre for the teaching of art and design at Pocklington
School in East Yorkshire. Submissions of interest by 28th August
- Pentagon Memorial: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has launched
an open design competition to select a design for a memorial
on the grounds of the Pentagon. The competition site is near
the impact site of September 11th and the project intends to
honor the victims of the attack. Registration by Aug 23rd 2002.
OISTAT
International Theatre Architecture Competition 2003 -the
International Organisation of Scenographers, Theatre Architects
and Technicians (OISTAT). The sixth OISTAT competition seeks
open solutions to a simple design problem; competitors can select
their own site and determine many elements of the programme themselves
in order to explore their own ideas about the relationship of
performers to theatre architecture and the nature of performance
space. Submissions by February 15 2003.
- Sustainable Urban Housing Complex, Mexico. The Federation of Associations of Archtects
of the Mexican Republic (FCARM), with the support of the Government
of the State of Guanajuato, launches an international ideas competition,
open and anonymous, in a single stage for the design of a sustainable
urban housing complex. Deadline for reception of registrations
15 August 2002
- Room to Grow A Child's Space in
the 21st Century Home
- MFI, the UK's leading retailer
and manufacturer of kitchens and bedrooms, have launched a second
competition in collaboration with the RIBA Competitions Office
and RIBA Journal. Submission Deadline: Tuesday 6 August 2002.
- Redesigning the modern city. Ideas Competition for the upgrading of the Rozzol
Melara quarter of Trieste -International ideas competition of
urban design, open to professionals and students. Application
deadline: 12.00 am 31 July 2002.
peep
show pavilion design competition To create an innovative
street presence for visual art during Artcity and other special
events in Calgary, the annual juried Peep Show competition
will commission the design and construction (pending funding)
of one exhibition pavilion each year. The pavilions will be designed
to show one or more works of art. Application deadline: July

Waterford
North Quays -the Office of Public Works in Ireland invites
submissions to an open International Competition for Architects,
Urban Designers and their teams, to design a dockland regeneration

Martin
Valley Sculpture Park -Cork County Council in partnership
with the National Sculpture Factory (NSF) & Blarney Development
Group. The competition is an open one stage architectural competition
to develop a Sculpture Park at Waterloo, Blarney. Submission:

Managed
Workspace, Stokesley -expressions of interest are invited
for a competition to design a 10,000 sq ft managed work space
at £1.5 million on a business park in Stokesley, North

American
Institute of Architects Pasadena and Foothill Chapter BiennialDesign
Awards 2002 - event to recognize design excellence. This
year the P&F Chapter of the AIA is using technology and digital
media for this entire process. This awards program and 3D gallery
is about communication. It is a showcase of new methodologies
of communication and highlight the value of information. Application
deadline: July 19, 2002, Submittals by August 9, 2002.
Design
for Europe -Furniture Design Competition. The Competition
is restricted to objects that relate to creativity in interior
design, within the categories that are usually understood to
be part of design and product development. Projects concerning
architecture and town planning will not be allowed. Deadline
for registration 15th July 2002.

for Europe' is a biennial competition for creativity in interior
design. It is organised by the Interieur Foundation and the Interieur
Design Academy I/De/A, located in Kortrijk, Belgium. Registration

Armada
Way Pavilion -Expressions of interest are sought for design
teams to take part in an RIBA organised competition on a significant
city centre site in Plymouth. It involves the redevelopment of
Armada Way with a unique 'pavilion' development to provide high
quality food and drink facility. Details available from the RIBA

- The
Philip Webb Award 2002,
SPAB annual award for Part II students at UK Schools of Architecture.
Purpose of the Award is to encourage new design in the context
of historic buildings and to develop an appreciation of old buildings
amongst architectural students, through an understanding of the
architectural and historical values of old buildings and the
purpose, philosophy and techniques of conservation. Closing date
12th July 2002.
- Olympic Games 2004: ephemeral architectural
structures. Submissions
are being sought for an international competition to design "ephemeral"
architectural structures in Athens for the 2004 Olympic Games.
The structures must relate to specific programmes and themes
that will generate cultural events. The registration deadline
is 8 July 2002, with submissions due by 11 November 2002.
New
Urban District in Lisbjerg near Aarhus, Denmark. Competition
to generate ideas for a new 550-hectare urban district six kilometers
north of Aarhus. The area, known as Lisbjerg, is home to three
villages - Lisbjerg, Ølsted and Trige. The competition,
organised in consultation with the Federation of Danish Architects,
is open to architects worldwide. The registration and submission
deadline is 5 July 2002.
The
Bombay Sapphire Prize 2002 The Bombay Sapphire Foundation,
established to support and reward the best in contemporary glass
design, announces a major new award with a total prize fund of
£20,000. Closing date for entries 30th June 2002.
The
Ermanno Piano Scholarship has been created for newly graduated
architects to give them the opportunity to improve their education
through a six-month internship with the Renzo Piano Building
Workshop in Paris. Submission of qualifications by June 30th
2002

for Ideas 2002. International,
single-phase, anonymous competition for ideas, open to participants
up to the age of 35. Object of the Competition -Ideas, concepts,
proposals, visualized strategies and implementations on the theme

- iDesign Awards-annual, global design competition by Autodesk.
The iDesign Awards will honor those select few from 24 countries
around the world who set out to solve a design challenge, and,
in the process, achieve a perfect balance of form and function.

Blackpool Swivelling
Wind Shelter -RIBA organised
competition.Submissions are invited for innovative designs for
three new shelters to be built on a high profile location on
Blackpool's South Shore Promenade. Deadline for submission of

- Research Trust Awards 2002. The RIBA Centre for Architectural Education
is inviting applications for the Research Trust Awards 2002.
Deadline for applications is 3 June 2002.
- The Vision Design Competition - established by the BBC to encourage
and support new creative talent into the film, television and
multi-media industry. Entry submissions for Costume, Production/Set,
Make-up and Visual Effects must be received between 15th April
and 3rd May 2002, and for Broadcast Graphics, 3D Animation, Interactive
and New Media design to be received between 3rd June and 21 June
2002.
The World Habitat Award
2002 is an annual competition with a first prize of £10,000
and that rewards two projects offering practical and innovating
habitat solutions (developed or developing countries). Last registration
date: June 1, 2002
- Glasshouse
European design competition organised by Pilkington - Europe's
leading glass manufacturer - in association with Architecture
Today magazine. The object of the competition is to design a
house for the 21st century that demonstrates and exploits the
architectural potential of glass. Entry is open to all architecture
students and young architects until 31st May 2002.

The
Council of Europe competitions for two additions to its Strasbourg
headquarters. One is for a new general office building, the other
for a new headquarters for the European Directorate for the Quality

Caiazza Promosedia competition: Ideas for the design of a European
chair -design competition
is open to students of design and young professionals of the
European Union. Submissions are invited which express originality
and innovation and which identify the use and function of the
chair, giving due consideration to ergonomics, choice of materials
and the requirements for mass production. Submission: 3 May 2002
- City Re-emerging: The East Exchange and
Red River Ideas Winnipeg,
Canada. International Design Competition, The competition area
includes the nationally celebrated Exchange District, and is
adjacent to the Forks (a public, market and cultural centre in
Winnipeg), and other significant cultural institutions as well
as the downtown intersection of Portage Avenue and Main Street.

- Exploring the Urban Condition e2-contest is an international competition open
to young architects and students in architecture, landscape and
urban design all over the world. Jurors are lead by Dominique

Bentley Education
Network (BEN) 2002 Student
Design Competition, Open to students of secondary and accredited
post-secondary schools, it includes six categories: Architecture,
Mechanical Engineering, Civil/Transportation Engineering, Plant
Engineering, Mapping/GIS, and Animation and Freeform/Artistic
Expression. Eligible projects must be created using MicroStation
and/or MicroStation-based products. Entries by April 29th 2002.

Competition
for an Integrated Care Centre Expressions of interest
are sought from architect-led design teams to take part in a
competition for the design of an Integrated Care Centre, to be
built on the site of the current Kentish Town Health Centre in
Camden, London. Expressions of interest by 4.00 pm on Tuesday
30th April 2002.
The UIA and UNESCO are organising a competition
entitled "Defining
an architecture for the 21st century". This is an international
ideas competition to develop the urban centre of Berlin-Mitte.
The prize will be awarded during the international architecture
conference that will be held in Berlin next July. This competition
is open to students of architecture or town and country planning.
The deadline for registrations is the 27th of April.
- Redevelopment of the OECD Headquarters
Site in Paris, la Muette
-International Call for Candidates for a Design Competition for
the redevelopment of the OECD headquarters at an estimated cost
of 55m euros. Deadline for submissions: April 26 2002.
Piazza
Italia in Giappone 2001. The CNA/National Council of Architects
-online design competition for young architects to design an
urban piazza to be built in Kobe with Italian materials. The
City of Kobe aim to eventually realize the piazza following the
winning design, also using typically Italian finishing materials
(stone, marble, bricks etc). Submission 26th April
- Triestexpo -the Faculty of Architecture, University of Trieste,
announces an International Ideas Competition for students. The
aim is to encourage architectural and urban design solutions
linked to the proposal of Trieste as the candidate city for a
world exhibition which should take place between 2006 and 2010.

The
Bloomington Community Arts Commission, in conjunction with
Bloomington Transit, invites proposals for three new public bus
shelters to be installed along a major thoroughfare that will
be improved as part of a city-wide transportation project in
2002. Third Street, the principal entry to Bloomington from the
west, will be redesigned to serve as a gateway corridor to south-central
Indiana's cultural capital. Registration Deadline: April 19,

- The Power of Fragility -the third Nagoya Design Competition,
Japan. This year the international design competition of Nagoya
Design Do! is an invitation to embark on an expedition in search
of a new metaphysical-design paradigm: a "design of fragility"
that secures the "power of fragility." Entries by April
18th 2002.
Homes
for Learning. UK. The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham
is to hold an open ideas competition to explore and develop the
provisions of learning space within the home. The focus will
be on the typical Becontree type cottage, located on the Becontree
Estate in the Fanshawe ward of the Borough. The competition is
open internationally to architects and students. Submission deadline
Tuesday 16th April 2002.
- nuova stazione AV di Firenze TAV - Treno Alta Velocità S.p.A. (Group
Italian National Railways) -an architectural competition for
the new AV Florence railway station. The new station will be
located at about one kilometre from the old Michelucci's station
of Santa Maria Novella and it will become the main station of
Florence.
- Delivery of the candidacy album
for the preselection: April, 15th 2002.
The
Great Egyptian Museum Competition, Arab Republic of Egypt.
This competition is an open invitation to architects from around
the world to engage in the creative design of a unique architecture
for the Great Egyptian Museum. Near the Giza Pyramids, the new
museum will pay homage to eternal Ancient Egyptian monuments,
treasures, and history. The project aims to establish a state-of-the-art
museum complex providing facilities and access to a broad range
of information. Registration Deadline: April 7, 2002
- 2002 Burnham Prize Competition -Chicago Architecture Club. The program
of the competition will be for the design of a new home for the
Spertus Institute of Judaica in Chicago, Illinois. Located on
historic Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago, the building site
is across from Grant Park along the lakefront. Registration Deadline:
April 5, 2002
Tuscany:
art, culture and nature. Tuscan furniture: quality, innovation,
design and more -international contest centering on design of
furnishing elements with accentuated characteristics of environmental

- Charette 2002. Portland, USA. Over the last seven years, the
AIA/IDP (American Institute of Architects; Intern Development
Program, Portland Chapter) has been running a series of design
competitions. The purpose of these competitions is to allow students,
interns and artists a venue to express their ideas and create
a critical dialogue around current issues in the City of Portland.
This is an opportunity for young vibrant minds to cast their
ideas into the mix and see what we can stir up. Registration

Market Cross design Competition. The Blandford and District Civic Society,
with support from North Dorset District Council, is running a
competition, which seeks a novel and imaginative design for a
new Market Cross for Blandford Forum'. Closing date for entries

Bangkok - The United Nations Educational Scientific
and Cultural Organization is now accepting entries for the UNESCO
Asia-Pacific Heritage 2002 Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation.
The awards programme, in its third year, recognizes the best
efforts of private sector individuals and organizations in preserving
the built heritage of the Asia-Pacific region. Projects involving
buildings at least fifty years old and which were completed within
the past ten years are eligible for consideration. Entries for
the 2002 Awards programme must be submitted to UNESCO office
in Bangkok by 31 March 2002.

Saint Paul Riverfront Corporation, City of St. Paul, MN. An open
competition for ideas and designs for the reuse of an historic
six story reinforced concrete grain elevator and adjacent 5,460
sq ft single story clay tile building perched on the Mississippi

The
Young Structural Engineer's International Design Competition
2002 (PDF file). The theme for this year is to develop a
demountable, mobile information centre which will also have facilities
for lectures, functions debates and formal teaching. The deadline

- The Finsbury Park Hub: Community Resource
Centre. Two-stage Invited
Competition
- Expressions of interest are
invited for a competition to design a community resource centre
within the Historic Finsbury Park, to enhance the gates area
of the park and provide facilities to compliment the Park. The
competition seeks a quality, imaginative, contemporary design
for a modern, well equipped, multi-purpose building that will
serve the community of Finsbury Park. The Finsbury Park Community
Forum actively encourages black and minority ethnic architects
and women architects to take part in this competition. Expresssion
of interest by practices by 27th March.
Monteney
Community Development Project. The RIBA Competitions Office
is to run a competition to select a Management Architect for
a key regeneration scheme in the Sheffield area. A key objective
is to optimise the potential of the area socially, architecturally,
environmentally and economically through the development and
upgrading of community based facilities. Registration by 14th

Rome 2001 -
New Urban Scenes" -open international ideas competition
is being run over the Internet by the Rome Architects Association
in collaboration with XPSPACE.NET. The organisers describe it
as an "on-line Expo". The idea is to create an on-going
think tank and resource for the future development of Rome. Deadline
to register interest by 19 March 2002.
- The 2002 Business Week/Architectural Record Awards (BW/AR) is an annual global awards program
recognizing distinguished collaboration and result between clients/architect
building teams who use architectural design to achieve strategic
goals. Registration: March 15, 2002.
Dulux
Color Awards 2002 Australia. The annual Dulux Colour Awards
is a design competition for architects, interior designers and
students, recognising and rewarding the finest in creative vision
for the use of colour in architectural and interior design projects.

DuPont
Benedictus Awards 2002. This
annual competition awards significant and innovative uses of
laminated glass in architecture. The competition is open to architecture
students and architects. Registrations can be submitted up until
the 1st of March 2002
- The airport of Graz in Austria is organising an ideas and project competition
to extend its passenger terminal. This competition is
international and open to all architects. The deadline for registrations

Architectural Photography Competition. The top 14 entries will be exhibited at the 2001
AIA National Convention in Charleston. Images for the 2004 Engagement
Calendar will be selected from all submitted entries and will

Atlas
on Architecture of the future The 'Architecture of the Future'
working group of the UIA 2002 is inviting people around the world
to communicate their visions and conceptions about the architecture
and the town of tomorrow in the 'Atlas of the Architecture of
the Future'.One winner per continent will be drawn, winning a
trip to Berlin to the UIA-World Congress of Architecture from

Graphisoft Park Conference
Centre, Budapest, Hungary. Graphisoft, developer of ArchiCAD,
announces an international ideas competition, open and anonymous,
for the design of a new conference center on the site of its
world headquarters. This competition, which is in conformity
with the UNESCO/UIA Regulations, has been approved by the International
Union of Architects UIA. Deadline for entries 24 February 2002
- Young
Architects Forum 2002
-Architectural League of New York. Young architects and designers
are invited to submit work to the annual Young Architects Competition.
Projects of all types, either theoretical or real and executed

- Santa
Fe Railyard Park and Plaza.
The Trust for Public Land has joined with the city-and the community-of
Santa Fe, New Mexico to sponsor an international design competition
for the development of a new park, plaza and connecting walkways
in the city's downtown core. The main emphasis of the Competition
will be to produce a set of alternative urban design visions
for the Railyard property's public spaces within Santa Fe's urban
context. Expressions of interest by February 19th 2002.

- GeoCenter Møns Klint - international design competition for
a 3000 m2 nature based geology and experience centre, situated
in the magnificent scenery at the Store Klint of Møns
Klint. The competition is open to architects and engineers in
Denmark, other EU countries as well as countries outside the
EU. The prize amount is DKK 600,000. Deadline for entries is

- From 22 to 26 July 2002 the
UIA will be holding its XXI World
Congress of Architecture in Berlin, entitled "Resource
Architecture" in co-operation with the Bund Deutscher Architekten
BDA. Accompanying the congress, an international urban design
ideas competition will be held to promote young talent in the
field of architecture. The aim of the competition is to collect
design ideas for redeveloping an inner-city area in Berlin-Mitte.Registration

- European Quarter Housing Plan -competition for the planning of a 25-hectare
housing complex inFrankfurt, Germany to be used for the 2012
Olympics. In the event that Frankfurt is successful in its bid
for the 2012 Games, the winning firm will have earned the opportunity
to enter into a contract with the Deutsche Bundesbahn and City
of Frankfurt in order to realize this project. The competition
will be narrowed to 30 participants of which 25 will be selected
through a lottery from the original shortlist of 50. The additional
5 will be invited participants.

On the site of Los Fuentes de Loreto and Guadalupe in the city
of Puebla, México, where the Mexican troops defeated the
French troops on May 5th, 1862 -urban and ecological regeneration
project, considering the existing buildings on the site and on
developing the new extension (Science and Technological Development
Museum). Deadline for inscriptions from January 31, 2002
Geological
Gardens Competition -two stage international competition
for the design of an outdoor Exhibition Centre incoporating a
series of 'geological gardens' on a site in Nottinghamshire for
the British Geological Survey (BGS). The Exhibition will contain
14 separate gardens to show the passing of geological time. Stage
