Peru: International Competition Macchu Pichu 2004 -overnight lodge for national and international tourists.

Estonia: Tallinn Module -public international single-stage design competition. The objective of the competition is to find a unique system of outdoor urban furnishings for the City of Tallinn that combines different objects (kiosks, telephone booths, park benches, bus stop shelters, advertising stands and so on) into a unitary whole. Registration/submission Dec 22nd 2003.

UK: International Open Image (IOI) -This competition provides a channel for a collective of thoughts, skills & ideas to be expressed, explored, discovered & promoted. It is an opportunity for established professionals and emerging talent to have their work appreciated by a mix of their industry peers and the wider public at large. This Competition is open to all areas of creative media to support the promotion of talent within the fields of digital imaging, virtual reality, web art, photography, installations, painting, sculpture & mixed media.Closing date for entries is 17th December 2003.

USA: 2004 Steedman fellowship in architecture -international design competition. The Steedman Fellowship, granted since 1925, is awarded biannually on the basis of an International Design Competition. The registration deadline is December 15, 2003.

USA: New Housing New York -Design Ideas Competition - The goal of the competition is to expand existing concepts for high quality affordable housing in New York City. Register by Dec 15th 2003.

Italy: Planning of Fiume Veneto island -Isola del Fiume, in collaboration with the municipal administration of the city of Fiume Veneto, is launching an international ideas competition, open and anonymous, for the plans of Fiume Veneto Island. Deadline for reception of registrations 13 Dec. 2003

Holland: Soil and Soul -open ideas competition. In the context of the project 'Geest en Grond (Soul and Soil), culture-based planning in the Dune and Flowerbulb Region', the Erfgoedhuis Zuid-Holland (Heritage Centre for South Holland) is holding international ideas competitions both for professional participants and for non-professionals. Deadline for registration -10 December 2003.

USA/International: Berekely Prize Competition 2004 -An international, on-line essay competition open to undergraduate students of architecture dedicated to the proposition that architecture is a social art.

UK: Stamford Gateway design competition -England's finest stone town seeks to transform two key squares through quality design. These spaces are gateways for pedestrians and a focus for events. Expressions of interest by 5th December 2003.

Canada: Canadian Museum for Human Rights, Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Canadian Museum for Human Rights will be an international symbol and celebrate a country that is now one of the most inclusive and tolerant societies in the world. Through its signature architecture, galleries, collections and programs, the museum will address the 21st Century challenges of bridging disagreements and strengthening relationships between communities. Registration by December 5th 2003.

USA: Groen Hoek: The East River Community Boathouse Competition. An international open ideas competition by AIA Emerging NY Architects to design a boathouse for the community of Greenpoint in Brooklyn, New York. The competition registration ends December 5, 2003.

USA: Pallisades Winter Mountain Hut Competition -the University of California, Berkeley, College of Environmental Design and The Wiener Family Fund for Public Architecture and Landscape is sponsoring an international competition for the design of a 60 to 80-person wilderness base camp facility for overnight stays. Entries by Dec 5th 2003.

Finland: Architectural competition - Wooden urban village of Myllypuro -The City of Helsinki, the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Finnish Forest Foundation and Wood Focus Finland are organising an architectural competition in co-operation with the Finnish Association of Architects. This competition's objective is to find new solutions for the construction of high-density, low-rise residential dwellings using wooden construction. Registration + submission deadline: December 2, 2003

UK: Peterborough Innovation Centre -The RIBA is launching a two stage open international design competition on behalf of the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) for a new Innovation Centre to be built on a prominent site in Peterborough. The deadline for stage one submissions is 1st December.

Taiwan/International: Chi- Chi Earthquake Memorial Competition -The goal of this competition is to select a design proposal of Chi-Chi earthquake memorial that can provide innovative solutions for the Chi-Chi earthquake memorial and with respond to social, political and culture issues, which originated as a result of the disaster. Registration Deadline: November 30, 2003

UK: Nottingham: old market square design. An invitation for experienced professional companies or consortia to submit proposals for the redesign of the Old Market Square in Nottingham. Expressions of interest by 13th November 2003.

UK: Cleopatra's Kiosk -An open international competition for the design of a new structure for Cleopatra's Kiosk located on the north bank of the River Thames in London. Organised by RIBA competitions, submissions due by 4th Nov 2003.

new: USA -Record Houses 2004 call for entries The editors of Architectural Record announce the 49th annual RECORD HOUSES awards program. Entry is open to any registered architect. Submissions by Nov 3rd 2003

USA: The American Academy in Rome, one of the leading overseas centers for independent study and advanced research in the arts and the humanities, invites applications for the prestigious Rome Prize competition. Deadline: November 1, 2003

USA: Mid-Atlantic Precast Association first Precast Castle Design Competition. Student and professional architects, engineers, and designers are challenged to design a Medieval castle complex including guest quarters, towers, banquet hall, dungeon, bridge and joisting arena utilizing as many precast components as possible. Deadline: October 31

UK: 2004 Clay Roofing Awards. For specifiers involved in residential housing or commercial new build, refurbishment and self build projects. Submission: 31 October.

-The Region of Campania has launched an international competition aimed at finding solutions that would return the Duomo to an active place of worship and still preserve the complex archaeological heritage of the site. Declaration of intent to be submitted by October 17th 2003.

Norway: internatjonal design competition for a Concert Hall in Stavanger. Organised by the National Association of Norwegian Architects. The deadline for submitting entries is 17 October 2003. 

UK: Waterside Housing Competition Leeds City Centre -Expressions of interest are invited from architectural practices to design a newbuild predominantly residential development on a 2 hectare/5acre waterfront site in Leeds City Centre. Deadline for expressions of interest is Monday 13 October 2003.

Israel: The Dan David Prize -The Dan David Foundation, based at Tel Aviv University, is seeking nominations for its 2004 awards. A prize of US$ 1 million will be awarded to an individual or institution having an outstanding scientific, technological, cultural or social impact on our world in the field of Cities and their Historical Legacy. Closing date for nominations is 15 October 2003.

UK: New Digital Media Centre. Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking creative ideas from architects for the design of their new state of the art Digital Media Centre. Final date for receipt of first stage design submissions is Wednesday 8th October 2003.

USA/International -Autodesk Design Awards -submit your best work by October 7th 2003 and you could win a trip to Autodesk University in Las Vegas.

International: Celebration of Cities International Consultation. As part of the national adjucation, UIA Member Sections will select a maximum of five projects in each category (architects ­ students) to be submitted to the international jury. Deadline for registration 6th October 2003.

UK/Europe: The Reardon Smith Student Award 2003. Best Design of an Accessible Hotel Bedroom And Bathroom. The task is to design a fully accessible hotel bedroom and bathroom.. Submission Deadline: Friday 3rd October 2003.

USA: Critical Mass Collaborations -FLAK seeks proposals for an exhibition of creative work demonstrating collaboration between diverse and interdisciplinary groups. Entrants are encouraged to consider "the idea of Detroit" as the basis for their proposal. Submission deadline 1st October 2003.

UK: 2003 Building Sights Award -Open to public and private sector buildings. The project must have engaged the public, physically or virtually, in the construction process. The closing date for this years applications is 30 September 2003.

USA/Argentina: Miami Bienal Competitions
Resistencia Master Plan Competition. Sponsored by Chaco State Provincial Government (Argentina) and Florida International University. Floating Guest House for Miami Beach Hotel -A Student Competition for a Floating Guest house for a Miami Beach Hotel will be featured during the Bienal/Architecture Week.

Russia: International Festival "Landscape Architecture. The main part of this Festival is the Competition for the best proposal of landscape design for different areas, the winner of which is awarded the Grand Prix. Submission by 25th of September, 2003.

UK/world: Engineering for a Sustainable Future -New Spirit Challenge 2003 Organised by Engineering for a Sustainable Future, one of the IEE's Professional Networks the competition winner will receive practical support for projects aimed at making an innovative contribution to sustainability. Completed application forms should be returned by19th September 2003

Korea: DBEW (Design Beyond East & West) International Design Competition. Last year, under the background theme of "Design beyond East & West", there was a sub-theme of "DEW for the One Child Family", DBEW international Design Competition called entries of the
architecture / interior / furniture design field. Deadline for submissions is September 17, 2003, Wednesday.

UK: ar+d 2003 -The ar+d award for emerging architecture is the biggest award for young architects in the world and gives £10 000 in prize money.
Awards are for built or manufactured work only, and besides buildings, the full range of design activity, from landscapes and urban spaces to furniture and cutlery can be submitted. Deadline for receipt of entries : 16 September 2003.

Belgium: Ideas competition in Brussels Research Center on Architecture of La Cambre (CRAC- Center de Recherche Architecturale de la Cambre) . The Plateforme Flagey is officially launching an idea competition for the Place Flagey, a public square located in Brussels in the neighborhood of the headquarter of the European Union. Registration deadline: 9 september 2003

UK: RIBA Competition -Contemporary Visual Arts Building Colchester Expressions of interest are invited from multi-disciplinary design teams interested in taking part in a competition for the design of an innovative new multi-million pound visual arts building in Colchester, Essex, UK. Expressions of interest should be received by Thursday 28th August.

UK: wood for good : student design competition -a major open ideas competition to harness the talent of the UK's best design students. Submission by 28th August 2003.

UK: Open Design Competitions for Low & High Rise Dwellings in Plaistow. The competitions, organised on behalf of the London Borough of Newham, will form part of the regeneration of the Brooks Estate in Plaistow, London. Deadline for submission of designs is 19th August 2003.

Taiwan: "New Taiwan by Design" International Competition "Landform Series" for Tour Routes of Sun-Moon Lake, Alishan, North Coast & Hengchun Peninsula. Landscape design competition. Deadline for the first stage for this competition is on August 18th, 2003.

USA: International Photoreal Furniture Competition 2003 -This year's competition seeks computer-generated renderings of seating products: outdoor seating, stackable furniture, sofa, lounge, bar stools and hot tubs. Products created using any design software i.e. Vellum, Alias Studio, MAYA, Autodesk Inventor, 3d Max, Rhino 3d, Solid Works, Solid Designer, 3d, Unigraphics, ICEM, or Pro/ENGINEER to name a few. Registration by August 15, 2003

South Africa: Sixth International Student Design Competition 2003 -A Writer's Retreat. The CAA Student Design Competition 2003 invites you to design a sustainable retreat that addresses the needs of a reclusive writer. Drawings with registration forms, to arrive in Bloemfontein by 08 August 2003.

UK: Newlyn Art Gallery Development Competition to Select an Architect for the refurbishment of the 1895 Gallery building in Newlyn and the conversion of the ground floor of the Exchange building in Penzance.Organised by RIBA Competitions. The deadline for expressions of interest is Thursday 7th August

Australia: Campus 2010 + Building For The Future Program -Design Competitions Architectural and Landscape Architectural Services -The University of Sydney is seeking Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified consultants to enter an open first stage, limited second stage design competition for three separate interrelated projects within its Camperdown and Darlington Campuses. Expressions of Interest by Thursday 31 July 2003.

Japan: Central Glass International Competition 2003 - A Library for the New Age. Submission deadline: July 28, 2003

USA: First Step Housing Open Design Competition. Common Ground Community and The Architectural League of New York are holding an open design competition for a new form of individualized dwelling unit entitled First Step Housing. The registration deadline is July 11, 2003.

UK: Competitive Interview The Lowther Castle, Penrith, Cumbria. Expressions of interest are invited from architectural practices, to join a team of professional consultants to carry forward the conclusions of a Conservation Plan for Lowther Castle and Gardens. Stage I expressions of interest by Tuesday 8th July 2003.

USA: Malama Learning Center Design Competition -open, one-stage, international competition to design a unique structure that advances conservation and celebrates the natural and cultural heritage of Hawaii via the performing and visual arts. Submissions by 1st July 2003.

UK: Copper in architecture Awards -Copper In Architecture sponsors and organises annual Awards in two different but complementary areas: Architectural Design - covering projects incorporating copper roofing, cladding or other elements and Craftsmanship - exceptional workmanship on recently completed buildings with copper roofs, cladding and other external elements. Entry by 30th June 2003.

international: Aga Khan Award for Architecture. The Ninth Award Cycle, 2002 - 2004 The Aga Khan Award for Architecture, established in 1977 by His Highness the Aga Khan, recognises examples of architectural excellence that encompass contemporary design, social housing, community improvement and development, restoration, re-use, and area conservation, as well as landscaping and environmental issues. Registration deadline is June 30, 2003.

Mexico: International Design Competition
Library of Mexic
The government of Mexico, through the Secretary of Public Education (SEP) and the National Council for Culture and the Arts (Conaculta), has decided to construct the new building for the Biblioteca de Mexico José Vasconcelos. Registration and responses to the RFQI are due in Mexico City by June 27

USA: Design Services for Main Parade Ground, Presidio, San Fransisco -The Presidio Trust, a Federal government corporation, is soliciting Statements of Qualifications from qualified firms or teams to assist the Trust in developing and implementing a new design for the Main Parade Ground and associated public open spaces located at the Presidio of San Francisco. RFQ available approx. April 28, 2003 with responses due approx. June 23, 2003.

Europe: Contractworld.award -3rd International Architecture Prize for Innovative Interior Design Concepts Worth EUR 50,000, "contractworld.award 2003" is Europe's most lucrative architects' prize for interior design concepts. Deadline for receipt of entries: 23 June 2003

UK: Creative and Community Hub Building in the Heart of Slough scheme. Invitations are invited to express interest in entering a restricted design competition for the full architectural and lead design duties for the design of shell and core building to contain residential units (to Berkeley Homes specification) and significant public sector facilities including Library, Performance and media space, Digital Museum, Enterprise Hub. Deadline for requests to participate: 20.6.2003.

UK: Wakefield Waterfront Gallery Design Competition Expressions of interest are invited for a competition to design a prestigious and distinctive "landmark" gallery on the waterfront in Wakefield. The deadline for receipt of expressions of interest is Tuesday 17 June 2003.

Albania: International Competition on Urban Planning of Tirana City Centre -Government of Albania &Tirana Municipality with support and financing of the Federal Government of Germany through GTZ. Expressions of Interest to be submitted no later than 16th June.

USA: Perth Amboy High School Design Competition. The City of Perth Amboy, the Perth Amboy Board of Education and the National Endowment for the Arts, in conjunction with the New Jersey School Construction Corporation and New Jersey Department of Education, are pleased to announce a national design competition for a new high school. Registration Deadline June 16, 2003

UK: New Regional Centre for the Visual Arts, Bury St Edmunds -RIBA Competition. Bury St Edmunds Art Gallery Trust is working to develop a new regional centre for fine arts, crafts and design in the Corn Exchange, in Bury St Edmunds. Expressions of interest should be received by Friday 13th June.

UK: Panopticons -RIBA Approved - Open Design Competition Panopticon n. Structure, space or device providing a comprehensive or panoramic view. Architects, landscape architects, engineers, professionals or students are invited to take part in this exciting new design competition. The Panopticons will be located on six high-point sites across East Lancashire commanding stunning views. Their purpose is both aesthetic and functional they may take the form of shelters, viewing platforms, beacons. Submission Deadline: Tuesday 10th June 2003

UK: I BEAM is a national project to see what happens when you ask leading Architects to design their own typeface. With 26 letters and 10 numbers at their disposal, architectural practices have been approached to develop their own unique set of fonts. Entries for the exhibition must be received by Monday 9th June 2003.

UK: Architectural Press/Teachers in Architecture 2003 Design Competition for an Ecohouse To celebrate the forthcoming publication of Ecohouse 2 by Sue Roaf in March 2003 Architectural Press are proud to present the 2003 Design Competition for an Ecohouse. The last date for submission of an entry will be on the 1st June 2003.

UK: Anglo French housing The Kent Architecture Centre, on behalf of Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) and Direction de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine (DAPA), is pleased to announce the launch of an international architectural design competition. Joint Anglo-French Architect and Urban Design teams are invited to put forward submissions of interest for the development of affordable housing in and around London and Paris. Submit Stage 1 by 1300hours GMT on 30 May 2003.

UK: Learning Village Competition -Expressions of interest are invited from architectural practices to design the Masterplan layout and the detailed design for the redevelopment of Bishop Challoner Catholic Collegiate School into a "Learning Village". Requests not later than: 30.5.2003.

USA: The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation International Competition to design a memorial at the World Trade Center site for all those lost on September 11th and in the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center. Anyone, anywhere in the world 18 years of age or older can take part in the competition, but competitors must first register by May 29, 2003 to participate.

USA: Designing the High Line -Friends of the High Line-a New York City-based, non-profit coalition of local residents, businesses, and civic groups, is pleased to announce plans for a new design competition open to Architects, artists, designers, engineers, landscape architects, horticulturalists, urban plannersand students.The competition seeks visionary proposals to reuse the High Line as a pedestrian promenade. Registration by May 23rd 2003.

Korea: Nam June Paik Museum Competition. The competition, endorsed by UIA (International Union of Architects), is aimed to seek a new paradigm for the fusion of architecture and art by designing a new museum for Nam June Paik, the media artist who broke new ground for the contemporary art. It is to select an architectural design of excellence so that the selected architect(s) and Nam June Paik may jointly create a work of architecture in tune with the pioneering, artistic spirit of the artist Paik. Registration May 17, 2003.

UK: Thames Gateway -The London Development Agency is seeking to appoint 15 design advisors to work on upcoming architectural and urban design in projects in the Thames Gateway area of east London. The LDA are looking for people with specialist skills in environmental design, urban design, landscape design, urban strategy, masterplanning, or housing design. The closing date for applications is 16th May.

Canada: Toronto Waterfront Competition -Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation ("TWRC") invites submissions from consultants to be pre-qualified to provide urban planning, design and engineering services for precinct planning to TWRC in connection with the revitalization of Toronto's waterfront. Deadline for submissions May 15, 2003.

UK: Sure Start Community Building, Colchester -Expressions of interest are invited for a competition to select an Architect to work with the St Anne's Sure Start Community building steering group (the promoter) on a new centre for the St Anne's area the east of Colchester. Expressions of interest by Friday 9th May 2003.

Italy: Promosedia competition for Ideas for Chair Design. The aim of the competition is to solicit ideas of quality, creativity and technical feasibility. Entries should present ideas for indoor chairs for residential and contract use, with a significant use of wood. Submissions by Friday, 9th May 2003.

UK: Stockton on Tees Northbank Footbridge Concept Design Competition. Expressions of interest are invited for an RIBA competition to provide a concept design for a prestigious and distinctive "landmark" bridge across the River Tees close to Stockton Town Centre. The deadline for receipt of practice profiles is Tuesday 6 May 2003.

The biennial Aluminium Imagination Awards are designed to showcase design excellence and best practice in the architectural application of aluminium. The deadline for receipt of entries is May 5, 2003.

europe: EUROPAN 7 -Europan is a biennial competition in the field of architecture and urban design in some twenty countries. The theme for Europan 7 is "Suburban Challange". Registration deadline: 2 May 2003.

IFLA World Congress 2003 -Landscapes on the Edge -Student Design Competition sponsored by the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The objective of the competition is to recognise superior environmental design achievements made by students in Landscape Architecture programs. Submissions are due in Calgary 1 May 2003.

Germany: Red Dot Award The "red dot award: communication design" is aimed at those who lead in creativity and communication management. Cast an eye over the exciting work and projects you have developed over the last year ­ work that embodies new approaches and stands out from the rest of the scene. Closing date for entries: 28 April 2003

USA: The Chicago Architecture Club is pleased to announce the first Chicago Prize Competition, a periodic 2-round design competition intended to bring critical architectural thinking to bear on issues pertinent to Chicago. The program is for a new 1000 car parking garage and is drawn from the Central Area Plan, a masterplan for Chicago's central business district (the Loop) and the adjacent neighborhoods recently released in draft form by the City of Chicago Department of Planning and Development. Registration/submission April 25th 2003.

Canada St. Mark's Coptic Orthodox Church, Toronto, Ontario, invites architects, designers and multidisciplinary
teams to participate in an open anonymous international design competition. The competition includes a campus master plan and the basic aarchitectural idea of a Cathedral to seat a congregation of approximately 2,000, a second Church to seat 1,000, Bishop's residence, academic school, day care, community center, museum, retirement home, senior citizen apartment building and office building.Registration closes on April 25th, 2003.

BEN Student Design Competition 2003 -the Bentley Education Network (BEN) is now accepting entries for the 2003 Student Design Competition. This competition recognizes the innovative, technically advanced projects that students from around the world create using Bentley products. All students of secondary and accredited post-secondary schools are eligible to submit projects created with MicroStation and MicroStation-based products. Entries by April 25th 2003.

UK: New Islington -Manchester's Millenium Community new Housing Competition -provision for new social housing in Manchester . World class architecture, 'green' design, new technology and a high quality public realm will define New Islington as a special place in the City. The quality of design will make the difference. Deadline for expressions of interest 24th April.

USA: Shaping The New American Riverfront. A Competition for Memphis. Design of a 5 acre urban event site and riverboat docking facility linking downtown Memphis to the Mississippi River. Submission due by April 23rd

Europe: The sustainable exhibition pavilion - a competition for European Architecture students. The competition will be judged by a panel of international architects, self-builders and contractors. The winning project will be found in spring 2003, and finally professionally planed in order for it to be built during a two weeks seminar on sustainable architecture. The competition site, as the seminar, is situated in Aarhus, Denmark. Closing Date 18th April 2003.

Germany: New Plan for the Bockenheim area around the Johann Wolfgang Goethe- University, Frankfurt. Sponsor: State of Hessen, Germany. Open, international competition, German language. Deadline for submissions: 17 April 2003

UK School Design -RIBA competition Expressions of interest are invited from architect-led teams for the design of an environmentally innovative new primary school in the Sheffield area. Anns Grove school is currently housed in listed Victorian buildings on a site in Heeley, 2 miles from Sheffield City Centre. Deadline for expressions of interest is Wednesday 16th April.

New seat of the Pisa Provincial Administration in Cisanello "central park". The project of Cisanello "central park" in Pisa is aimed at meeting the need of giving quality to the old city expansion and to begin an overall action, which allows for the connection between the aspects of an urban design and the management of the territory, in a dimension that goes beyond the city's boundaries.

2003 Benedictus Awards Created by the DuPont de Nemours company, this annual awards programme, rewards the authors of exemplary and innovative architectural designs using laminated glass as a major element of the project.. Deadline for submitting entries is 14 April 2003

Innovative School Design Awards. School Construction News and DesignShare are sponsoring the fourth annual awards program for innovative learning environments. The purpose of the program is to share exemplary design ideas, case studies, and best practices that enhance learning. Registration deadline 11th April 2003.

UK New Library Development for Crawley. Expressions of interest are invited for a competition being organised to complete a feasibility study for a mixed-use development in Crawley Town Centre, including a new library as well as housing, car parking and possible heritage centre, health and retail.The competition promoter is West Sussex County Council, and the project is being managed by the RIBA Competitions Office.
Expressions of interest by Wednesday 8th April 2003.

Art Interactive Exterior Design Competition. The Art Interactive invites designers of all backgrounds and disciplines to design a new vision and public face for the Art Interactive gallery. The Art Interactive occupies the corner, ground floor location of the 130 Bishop Allen building, which was designed in the late 1950's by the modernist architect and planner Jose Luis Sert. Deadline for all submissions: Friday, April 4, 5:00pm

Italy: Eco-efficiency biennial -prize for a graduating thesis dealing with issues involved in the implications of application of the principles of eco-efficiency in various disciplines. Innovations in Community Design and Housing Competition -design competition for a Mixed -Use Sustainable Affordable Housing and urban design project in Los Angeles. The competition is open to licensed architects and architectural firms in the United States. Registration Deadline: March 28, 2003.

Hotel Competition -Mauritius. Extremely short notice, but may be of interest. Deadline now extended to 28th March 2003.

Hathershaw Community Centre. The RIBA Competitions Office has been appointed by Hathershaw & Fitton Hill New Deal for Communities, Oldham, to run a competition for the design of a new Community Centre in the Hathershaw and Fitton Hill area. The competition will invite five architectural practices to prepare preliminary design proposals for the new building. The winner of the competition will then be invited to work closely with the local community to develop a detailed design and take it through to completion. Deadline for expressions of interest: 26th March 2003

M.A.L.A Architectural Design Competition. The RIAI is administering a competition on behalf of Sligo County Council. The competition is an open two stage Design Contest for Architectural / Design Services for the design of Branch Library and Library Headquarters, County Museum and Site Master Plan.Submission of Stage One entry: 20 March 2003.

USA: Density Competition -The Boston Society of Architects (BSA) seeks submissions for a national design and planning competition that will examine the role that density can play in creating livable communities in cities and suburbs. The concepts that emerge from the competing submissions will be a key feature of a national conference, Density: Myth and Reality, to be held in Boston in September. The conference will focus on alternatives to sprawl: building, working, and living in higher density communities. Registration March 14th 03

Edinburgh old town fire ideas competition -ideas competition following the recent fire jointly run by designer Dan Frydman of Inigo Media & architect Adrian Welch of Edinburgh Contemporary Architecture. Revised deadline for submission of competition forms: Mar 7 2003.

Staten Island -September 11 Memorial. Artist/Designers Sought for Waterfront Tribute to Victims. Borough President James P. Molinaro announces the release of a Request for Proposals (RFP) for an artist/design team to develop a memorial honoring the 267 Staten Island victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks. Responses due by March 7, 2003.

Architectural Competition for Landmark Tower/U2 Studio in a Mixed Development at Britain Quay Dublin. The building required is a slim point block above a platform of a maximum of four floors and having a maximum height of 60 metres to the main shoulder parapet height and a floor area of a minimum of 9.500 sq metres up to a maximum of 12,500 sq metres. The two top floors must be capable of housing a recording studio for the U2 band. Closing Date 28th February 2003.

Stockport Town Centre Design Competition -Stockport Chamber of Commerce and Industry has joined forces with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Stockport Council, Merseyway Shopping Centre and the North West Development Agency to launch a design competition to give a new look to part of Stockport Town Centre. Submission Deadline: Tuesday 18 February 2003.

OISTAT International Theatre Architecture Competition 2003 -the International Organisation of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians (OISTAT). The sixth OISTAT competition seeks open solutions to a simple design problem; competitors can select their own site and determine many elements of the programme themselves in order to explore their own ideas about the relationship of performers to theatre architecture and the nature of performance space. Submissions by February 15 2003.

Emerging Visions Competition. This portfolio competition seeks to provide a forum for young designers to be recognized and to share their visions, inventions and ideas. Submissions may be built, unbuilt, or theoretical. Entrants must be 40 and under and live and work in the
Chicagoland area -architectural registration and AIA membership not required. Submissions by 3rd Feb 2003.

The Tel Aviv Museum of Art announces the launching of an open, double- staged competition for designing a new building on the museum grounds. The new building will be erected on vacant grounds within the museum compound;
these constitute the Museum's last available property to date. The new building will include three primary wings: The Israeli Art Wing, The Architecture Wing and The Education Wing. Registration/submission by Feb 1st 2003.

The Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA) and DWELL magazine announce a two-part project that addresses the future of affordable housing. The first component, the HOME House Project Design Invitational, will showcase innovative design solutions for affordable housing/living shelter by artists, architects, and designers from the United States. Registration by 1st Feb 2003.

MacRobert Award 2003 -The Royal Academy of Engineering. The UK's premier award for innovation in engineering. The Award, first presented in 1969, honours the winning company with a gold medal and the team members with a prize of £50,000. The presentation of the Award recognises the successful development of innovative ideas in engineering. It seeks to demonstrate the importance of engineering and the role of engineers and scientists in contributing to national prosperity and international prestige. Closing date 31st January 2003.

2003 Braunprize Braun GmbH invites young industrial designers around the world to take part in the 2003 BraunPrize. The theme of the competition: "Dream real products!" Braun challenges participants to develop product concepts for technical consumer items which represent real innovations in design and technology and which help people in all aspects of everyday life. The closing date is January 31, 2003.

Freedom Park, Pretoria. The Freedom Park Trust, with the support of the National Department of Arts and Culture of South Africa, launches an international project competition for the design of a Museum, a Garden of Remembrance and a Memorial, dedicated to South Africa's new found democracy based on the values of human dignity, equality, human rights and freedom, located on Salvakop hill, Pretoria. Registration by 24th Jan 2003.

Tate in Space Student Architecture Competition. A student architecture competition will be launching in October 2002. Guidelines for the competition and further details will be available from October. Winning entries will be displayed on the Tate in Space website. Deadline January 20th 2003.

European Central Bank Competition -the ECB has launched an international urban planning and architectural design competition for its new premises. The purpose of this competition is to identify the best design concepts for the ECB´s future home. Deadline for receipt of applications for participation: 20 January 2003.

Open Competition for the Design of a Residential Complex in Moscow -RosEuroInvest, one of Moscow's leading project developers are organising a competion for tworesidential towers in a housing area of Moscow. Submissions by Monday Jan 18th 2003.

San Jose State University Museum of Art and Design Competition -open two-stage competition to select a winning design and architectural team for new Museum of Art and Design. The new Museum, which will be built on the University campus near downtown San Jose, will seek to inspire members of the campus and greater Silicon Valley communities to explore the past, present, and future influences of art and design on our lives. Submissions by Jan 16th 2003.

Mediterranean Architectural Competition: Sustainable Mediterranean architecture with Aluminium facades. UIA with the Greek Aluminium Company. This competition aims to demonstrate aluminium's potential for sustainability and to encourage new architectural ideas for its application to low-energy buildings. Deadline for reception of registrations : 14 January 2003.

Geoffrey Chaucer College Competition -Invited Design Competition / Competitive Interview. Expressions of interest from architect-led multi-disciplinary design teams are invited for a competition being organised for redevelopment works to Geoffrey Chaucer Technology College.
