Going Public
Open Call for Entries
The second installation of the
Center for Architecture's inaugural exhibition will showcase
recent and proposed public projects in New York City, offering
a comprehensive view of the scope and quality of current public
work. The exhibition will present architecture, engineering,
art, landscape architecture, urban design, lighting design and
street furniture. A non-juried show, Going Public will offer
a snapshot of where we are at this moment-and where we are headed.
Exhibition opening October 10th during Architecture
Week 2006, (October 6October 12).

Eligible Projects-What is
Public Work?
Going Public defines public work
as projects commissioned by government agencies, non-profit organizations,
private institutions and developers which engage the public by
use or function, and are visible and accessible to all. Interiors
and public art meeting the above definition are also eligible.
Projects must be located within
the five boroughs of New York City and either are completed (after
January 1, 2005) or currently in design and construction.
Who Can Enter?
Entrant must be an architect,
artist, engineer, landscape architect, urban designer, lighting
designer, planner or designer.
Registration Forms and Fees
Entrants must register online
(click
here to register). The submission process includes a $25
registration fee made payable to AIA New York Chapter through
Acteva, our online payment service. One complete registration
and fee must be submitted for each project. All payments are
final and no refunds will be granted.
Submission Requirements
One 11-17 inch board mounted
on 1/8 inch black gatorboard for each project. Boards must be
horizontally oriented with no graphic borders. Images should
be full bleed. Information on the front of the presentation boards
must include project identification by name, location and client
as well as the project team (e.g. architect, engineer, consultants,
contractors, etc.) (Click

NOTE: submissions of work completed
as an employee of or as a consultant to a firm must include a
release from a principal in the firm concerned acknowledging
that the submitter has primary design responsibility, and that
the credits listed are correct. Each entrant must clear all elements
of each submission for reuse, unrestricted publicity, and reproduction
by the AIA New York Chapter. Release forms signed by the owners
and copyright holders of the material will be required as a part
of the submission. Copyright notices, if any, will be used on
material that the AIA New York Chapter publishes or distributes.
Entrants are responsible for any royalties or copyright/photographic
fees. Submission of a project shall constitute permission by
the submitter for publication.
As part of the online registration
submitters are required to upload a PDF format digital file of
their board (not exceeding 4 MB). The PDF should include complete
credits, suitable for projection and use on the AIA New York
Chapter website. Please submit a high resolution digital file
of the board on disk with the hardcopy board and a printout of
your online registration and signed release forms.
Models will not be accepted and
work will not be returned to the submitter. If you have specific

Submission Process and Deadlines
Work must be submitted to the
Center for Architecture and the online site (click
here to submit) by Wednesday, September 27th. This is not
a postmark deadline. Hand deliveries can only be made between
the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. Mail or deliver entries to:

Frequently Asked Questions
Can multiple boards on the same
project be submitted? For example the architect submits and the
interior designer submits.
No, one board per project. All team members should be listed
on the board.
Is there a release that the
owners/clients will need to fill out for their projects to be
displayed?
A release from owner/clients
is not required by the AIA New York Chapter-However, submitters
may want, or need a sign off from owners/clients for their own
records. The AIA NY Chapter does require a release form for 1)
submissions of work done as an employee of or as a consultant
to a firm and 2) reproduction and publicity of submission. (click

Are temporary projects eligible?
Yes, according to the
above mentioned requirements.
Are lighting designers eligible
to submit work?
A lighting designer doing
a public project is eligible. But the designer cannot submit
separately if they are part of a team.
Are theoretical projects eligible?
No, only work that has
been commissioned is accepted.
