Art Gallery Development
Competition to Select an Architect
Taking their scheme for the next
stage of the Gallery's operations a step further, Newlyn Art
Gallery management is setting out to find the right architect
for two building projects - the refurbishment of the 1895 Gallery
building in Newlyn and the conversion of the ground floor of
the Exchange building in Penzance.
The successful architect will
be selected by competitive interview and architects with sensitivity,
flair and vision are encouraged to apply. At present, Gallery
staff are working to obtain the necessary funding for their development.
This will include applications to the Arts Lottery, European
funding under the Objective One Programme and the South West
Regional Development Agency. The scheme has received warm and
very welcome support from Penwith District Council, who recognise
the Gallery's potential for regeneration and economic development
for the area.
The competition presents a superb
opportunity for an architect to work with an enthusiastic and
forward thinking client in a beautiful seaside setting. To find
out more about the competition and how to enter contact the RIBA
Competitions Office for a preliminary briefing paper. The deadline
for expressions of interest is Thursday 7th August
