Competitive Interview The Lowther Castle, Penrith, Cumbria

Expressions of interest are invited from architectural practices to join a team of professional consultants to carry forward the conclusions of a Conservation Plan for Lowther Castle and Gardens, to enable these features to be open to the public and function as a high-profile visitor attraction. The competition is being organised by the RIBA on behalf of The Lowther Estate.

Lowther Castle stands as a ruin, Listed Grade II*. The gardens and parkland are Listed Grade II on English Heritage's Register of Parks and Gardens of Historic Interest. The intention is to conserve, repair, and maintain the existing structural shell of Lowther Castle in order to secure its long-term future, and to protect and enhance the nature conservation potential of the grounds.

The Estate wishes to select an architectural practice which is able to offer a very high quality of design skills for a project in an exceptionally sensitive setting. Up to six architectural practices will be invited to interview.

Applicants wishing to be considered for the competition should contact the RIBA Competitions Office for a preliminary briefing paper. The deadline for expressions of interest is Tuesday 8th July.

Full details of the competition and how to register are available from RIBA Competitions Office, 6 Melbourne Street, Leeds LS2 7PS
