Housing Competition
Leeds City Centre
Expressions of interest are invited
from architectural practices to design a newbuild predominantly
residential development on a 2 hectare/5acre waterfront site
in Leeds City Centre. The competition Promoter is Harrow Estates
plc and the competition is being managed by the RIBA Competitions
Office, to whom any enquiries should be made.
Project Information
The Competition Site
enjoys a 200 metre frontage to Globe Road with open aspect views
across both the Leeds-Liverpool Canal and the River Aire. The
site is located within half a kilometre of the vibrant retail
and commercial heart of Leeds City Centre. With a site extent
comprising 2 Ha/5 acres, the competition offers an outstanding
opportunity to create an impressive and imaginative design contribution
to meet the aspirations for modern city centre living. Urban
design, vibrancy, architectural form, skyline profile and pedestrian
linkages will all be important aspects of this prominent river-bend
location along the waterside. The nature of the predominantly
residential development is likely to comprise several buildings
of varying height. The project represents a very substantial
private sector investment into the Leeds residential market,
and the ultimate clients will be prospective home-owners who
will expect variety and choice in an attractive and safe environment
of high visual quality.
Selection Process
Following expressions
of interest and an interview shortlist comprising a maximum of
8 practices, 4-5 practices will be invited to prepare design
proposals and each will receive an honoraria of £7,500
(+VAT). The deadline for expressions of interest is Monday 13
October 2003.
