Senior Architect

WalterFedy is seeking a senior design professional (Senior Architect) to complement our Integrated Design Studio and take part in all stages of project delivery for a wide range of exciting, innovative projects. Applicants should have a minimum of 8 - 10 years of experience delivering quality institutional, recreational and commercial projects and enjoy working in a collaborative project team environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop exceptional building designs based on project parameters
  • Produce written scopes of work for architectural designs based on initial project information and customer meetings
  • Analyze project objectives and desired outcomes in order to develop cost effective task plans to complete work on time and within budget
  • Apply knowledge of applicable building codes and work with code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation to building codes is required
  • Prepare and deliver comprehensive project reports and presentations at design milestones
  • Coordinate all aspects of project document completion
  • Review construction budgets
  • Provide review through construction and collaborate with all partners to issue instructions and changes as required
  • Assist in the education and development of design staff and act as resource for design questions
  • Participate in the expansion of TWFP business/client base through direct marketing activities.

Qualifications:

  • Award-winning designer in the fields of Health Care, and/or Commercial facilities
  • Ability to define and execute project requirements
  • Ability to manage customers, design staff & technical staff for multiple projects
  • Self-motivated team leader
  • Proven detailing knowledge
  • Proven experience in sustainable design
  • Strong interest in business development.

Specifications Writer:

WalterFedy is seeking a Senior Specifications Writer to prepare project manuals for a variety of complex building and project types in our collaborative, multi-disciplinary firm.
Responsibilities:

  • Prepare Project Manuals (for select highly complex projects with project types including educational, commercial, health care, industrial)
  • Interpret architectural, engineering and contract documents (drawings and specifications) and assist the Project Manager in locating information particular to the project
  • Oversee the preparation of Project Manuals
  • Assist trained Project Team members including Architects and Engineers to prepare Project Manuals
  • Provide Project Manual Training
  • Educate staff on issues related to specifications
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Architects, Engineers, and Designers
  • Ensure correct budgeting for specification production
  • Coordinate scheduling and production of Project Manuals
  • Collaborate with Project Teams
  • Act as a resource for technical questions as well as material and product selection
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years in architectural profession with minimum 10+ years experience in North America
  • 10+ years of dedicated specification writing for various building types
  • Bachelors degree in Architecture, or Certificate in Architectural Technology
  • Strong communication skills
  • Registered Specification Writer (RSW)
  • Preferred:
  • Active member of Construction Specifications Canada (CSC)
  • Certified Construction Specifier (CCS)
  • Active member of Construction Specifications Institute (CSI)

Energy Analyst

Position Overview:
This position focuses on simulating building energy use through energy modeling software throughout all phases of a project from conceptual development to as-built and post-construction. The incumbent is required to work collaboratively with all design disciplines, as well as independently with the customer and third parties.  

Major Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the creation of energy models for varying size and type of building
  • Read and interpret project documentation and specifications of energy-related systems / sustainable design / LEED, including energy modeling inputs and outputs, LEED templates, calculations, specifications, and architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings
  • Creating zoning diagrams for buildings based on other design discipline systems (mechanical/electrical)
  • Responsible for correctness of calculations, inputs, and workarounds
  • Troubleshooting energy model situations
  • Coordinate, create, and input all required LEED credit documentation for third party reviews
  • Energy modeling calibrations


Skills/Abilities Required:

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience energy modeling
  • Intermediate to advanced experience in eQuest required
  • Knowledge and experience of EE4, DOE-2 kernel and EnergyPlus
  • Excellent knowledge of MNECB, ASHREA 90.1 (2004, 2007 & 2010 preferred)
  • Background in mechanical or electrical design and building sciences is preferred
  • University degree in Engineering, Applied Sciences, or Mathematics or equivalent
  • P.Eng or P.Eng eligible is an asset
  • Accreditation as LEED AP is considered an asset
  • Strong written and oral communication skills


Architectural Technologist

Position Description:
WalterFedy is seeking an outstanding Architectural Technologist to that will work in our Integrated Design Studio to help to develop architectural design services and solutions and act as a specialist in the science of architecture, building design and construction. In this role you will be working closely with several architects on various projects. You will form the link between the architect’s concept and the completed construction, bridging the gap between the idea of an attractive functional building and the reality of that building performing successfully.
Responsibilities:

  • Apply knowledge of codes, standards and construction technology to solve specific design problems and implement solutions;
  • Determine survey requirements for existing building conditions and plan effective gathering of information of existing measurements, equipment and services;
  • Responsible for accuracy and completeness of information;
  • Develop drawings from rough architectural sketches, being able to fill in the detail in the sprint of the design;
  • Apply principles to unique drawing details;
  • Display a sound knowledge of architectural systems ;
  • Contribute to planning applications and other regulatory application procedures;
  • Produce, analyze and advise on detailed specifications for suitable materials or processes to be used;
  • Review of shop drawings related to the fabrication of construction elements for accuracy
  • Monitor projects during construction for compliance with construction drawings

Qualifications:

  • knowledge of architectural engineering principles, methods and practices
  • Comprehensive knowledge of design, specifications, construction and contracting techniques
  • Familiarity with construction related standards
  • Excellent drafting and graphic presentation skills in AutoCAD.
  • Ability to manage multiple and changing priorities, to be flexibility and shift priorities as needed to deal with demands of changed conditions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to analyze issues of various complexity and identify appropriate courses of action, using sound judgment and well developed problem solving skills
  • Completion of a Diploma in Architectural Technology, and/or registered or eligible for registration with OAAAS/OACETT would be considered an asset

Intern Architect

Position Description:
WalterFedy is seeking an outstanding Intern Architect to work collaboratively within our Integrated Design Studio on all aspects of project delivery with the goal of presenting innovative, architecturally excellent projects to our customers and our community.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Project Architect through the development of design concepts
  • Prepare architectural presentation documents
  • Research building science, sustainable design and design solutions related to project work
  • Provide Building Code and Zoning Bylaw research and support
  • Prepare Contract Documents in collaboration with the design studio


Qualifications:

  •  Professional degree in Architecture and a minimum of 2 years of architectural office experience
  • Intern Architect with the Ontario Association of Architects (or eligible to become an Intern Architect)
  • Self-motivated individual capable of assuming increasing responsibility for both current and future projects with an interest in growing with the firm.
  • Ability to multi-task and coordinate efforts on multiple projects in a fast paced environment
  • Demonstrated strong skills in creative design solutions, innovative thinking and research
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, building systems and materials.
  • Strong working knowledge of current versions of AutoCAD, 3D Max, Sketch-up, CorelDraw, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Microsoft Office Suite.  Revit experience is considered an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
