Lawrence Technological University
The College of Architecture and
Design at Lawrence Technological University seeks outstanding
candidates for faculty and administrative positions in Architecture
and Art & Design. Lawrence Tech is an independent, NCA accredited,
private university founded in 1932 and located in the greater
Detroit area. College programs hold accreditations from NAAB,
CIDA, and NASAD. Administrative appointments commence July 2012,
and faculty appointments commence August 2012.
Chair, Department of Architecture
The College seeks an
innovative, resourceful and experienced academic leader to fill
a full-time, tenure-track chair position. Responsibilities include
overseeing course scheduling, overseeing the departmental budget,
monitoring curriculum and degree programs, as well as initiating
and maintaining communications within the College, the community
and local or national professional organizations. The position
combines both administrative and teaching roles. An ideal candidate
should demonstrate a distinguished record of nationally or internationally
recognized work in practice, research and/or teaching. He or
she must possess a terminal degree in architecture and architectural
registration or a PhD in architecture. The successful candidate
must be capable of strong academic leadership, including program
stewardship and support of faculty and student development, excellent
interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to establish
and maintain the confidence and respect of faculty, students,
staff, alumni, and the professional community. Rank and salary
shall be commensurate with experience.
Architecture Faculty
Applicants for this tenure-track
or College Professor (non-tenure track) position should understand
design as an integrated and critical process of the built environment
and be willing to engage in design studio collaboration with
faculty specializing in the allied teaching areas of urban design,
landscape, interiors, and building technologies in integrated
architectural design studios. Applicants should demonstrate expertise
and research interest in one or more areas that could include:
architectural theory, historic preservation, digital technology
and fabrication, urban design, emerging practice, sustainability,
or building and environmental technology, and will teach studio
and/or seminar classes pertaining to that area of study. A terminal
degree in architecture is required. Professional registration
or PhD is desirable, but not essential.
Interior Architecture Faculty
Applicants for this tenure-track
or College Professor (non-tenure track) position should understand
interior architecture/design within an integrated architectural
school curriculum, including teaching studios in the CIDA-accredited
undergraduate program in interior architecture. He or she will
collaborate with faculty specializing in allied teaching areas
of architecture, urban design, landscape, and building technologies;
participate in teaching Integrated Design Studios; possess a
minimum of a master's degree in interior design or architecture,
as well as NCIDQ certification. Meaningful full-time experience
in design practice is required, with management level experience
desirable. The position will also involve recruitment activity
and networking with the profession.
Industrial Design Faculty
Applicants for this tenure-track
or College Professor (non-tenure track) position should understand
industrial design as a collaborative process within a multi-disciplinary
college of design. The focus is on designers who have a unique
blend of conceptual design, drawing and computer visualization
skills, knowledge of fabrication techniques and an understanding
of the integration of design and technology.
The relatively new program has strong ties to industry. Candidates
for this position will have a significant influence on the direction
of the program and should have significant practice experience.
A successful candidate must possess terminal degree in industrial/product
design or an equivalent design degree.

vitae, (3) portfolio of professional design work, (4) a statement
of philosophy pertaining to the discipline, (5) teaching goals,
research, creative activities, and/or scholarly intentions (if
applicable) (6) three letters of reference, and (7) qualifications
in an area of architecture, interior architecture/design, or
industrial design.
Candidates for the Department
Chair position should send (1) a letter of application, (2) a
statement describing their approach to teaching pedagogy, areas
of expertise, research/creative efforts, administrative experience
and philosophy, (3) curriculum vitae (4) three letters of reference,
and (5) a portfolio including teaching, scholarly, and creative
or professional efforts.
