Global Workshop // Arena Calcetto at the Venice Biennale 2012

DESIGN CALLOUT:
Deadline for submissions delivered to Sydney, Australia is 14th August and to Venice, Italy is 24th August.
This is a special invitation to be part of Archrival’s Global Workshop: an experimental sub-project for Archrival’s ‘Arena Calcetto’ at the Australian Pavilion, 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale.
Archrival is 1 of 6 teams exhibiting in the Australian pavilion under the theme ‘Formations: New Practices in Australian Architecture’. Archrival has created an installation with a series of tall timber structures sited amongst the trees in the entry forecourt of the pavilion. It is a bold, site-specific work with a playful twist – the structures house beautifully made custom fussball tables which can be used and Archrival is now inviting architects, artists, designers and other creative ‘makers’ to create custom fussball player objects for the installation.
Arena Calcetto explores the theme of ‘Formations’ and was conceived to represent Archrival’s practice ideals; to engage a wide number of collaborators and to create new connections between the audience, exhibitors and curators at the Biennale event. Archrival’s vision is to challenge existing practices in architecture and to expand the practice of creative professionals by harnessing the potential of design rivalries. Archrival are asking  for the submission of individual players or a team of 11 players. Archrival have prepared a detailed design brief and have provided base design templates to work with;
