Hungarian Museum Quarter

Hungarian Museum announces an open architectural design competition for the new Museum Quarter.

Response deadline: 30/08/2013

According to the plans of the Museum the tender for the architectural plans will be out in Q3 2013. This current competition aims to determine the final location of several buildings and to design the public areas, transport links. The architects have to ensure that there will be more green surfaces beside that the biological diversity and national heritage protection guidelines have to be also respected. According to recent news the New National Gallery, The Ludwig Museum, The Museum of Ethnography, The House of Hungarian Music and The Hungarian Architectural Museum will be located in the Museum Quarter.

Bidders have to make suggestions for the use of alternative energies sources and sustainability is also a crucial element of the tender. Parking places are also needed to be set up and the architects can only take places into account which are not more than 300-400 meters away for the Quarter. The Museum Quarter will serve as an artistic and creative area where gastronomy will also have a crucial role. It is estimated that the project will get started in 2014 and finished in 2018.

The plans will be evaluated based on these factors:

· Urbanistic conception, links between the areas

· Location, visual appearance

· Green surfaces and transport connections, links

· Public utilities, energy, sustainability

The deadline for the application is 9 September 2013 and the winner will be announced in October. The tender documentation costs HUF 25 400 (GBP 73) and it contains the full specification.
